Things we are excited about: November Edition
60% of the Oak team are very excited about Thanksgiving.
The rest are more excited about what happens to Brooklyn when everyone else has left the city. Other things the team are loving in November includes soup dumplings, Thanksgiving stuffing, and Stranger Things.

What have you been watching lately?
A friend and I just did deep dive into 90s movies with good soundtracks including Empire Records, Dazed and Confused, and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (though I’m not sure if I actually watched the latter before).
Who are you loving listening to right now?
I recently finished the Dirty John podcast, which was crazy. First podcast I had to binge listen since the first season of Serial.
What have you tried recently that you loved?
I recently bought a CitiBike membership and started biking to and from the office. So far I’m 5 weeks in and haven’t quit yet (although I might wimp out when it gets colder).
Where is your favorite local dinner spot?
That’s a tough one, but maybe Modern Love in Williamsburg, which they call “swanky vegan comfort food.” The chef is Isa Chandra Moskowitz who is the long-reigning queen of vegan cookbooks.
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Definitely the stuffing. You can never make enough. I also make a good Lentil Nut Loaf that has won over many omni friends and family. The recipe is here.

What have you been watching lately?
I’ve been rewatching Westworld, and it’s so much better the second time around! You catch much much more, I highly recommend it.
Who are you loving listening to right now?
I’m ashamed to say that I’ve already started listening to Christmas music. I love Sufjan Steven’s albums Songs for Christmas and Silver & Gold.
What have you tried recently that you loved?
Soup dumplings! I can’t believe I haven’t had them sooner.
Where is your favorite local dinner spot?
I haven’t been able to explore my new neighborhood too well, but I’ve been to Westville in Dumbo a few times since I moved and it’s fantastic every time. Who knew vegetables could be so damn tasty!
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Pumpkin pie. Like there’s any other correct answer.

What have you been watching lately?
Connections I by James Burke and Stranger Things season 2.
Who are you loving listening to right now?
I found a German death metal band called Blind Guardian who sing about this imaginary fantasy world. Gente de Zona usually pops up during my day, and when I’m working on Dropmark I listen to Helen Jane Long. I also listen a lot to my musical side project, Noon Pacific, in the afternoons.
What have you tried recently that you loved?
I tried making mushroom toast recently, and it was surprisingly filling and flavorful. I also tried kombucha, and I actually wanted to die.
Where is your favorite local dinner spot?
Totally love a spot called Abbot Square that just opened up inside the MAH, the local museum in Santa Cruz. Great little food court with a beautiful bar.
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Cornbread stuffing.

I have been watching The Office and will move on to Stranger Things next. Honestly, the whole team is excited for me to watch Stranger Things.

I recently started drinking coffee again. I both love and hate it.

BCD Tofu House in Midtown Manhattan.

What have you been watching lately?
Stranger Things balanced with rewatching the entirety of Sabrina the Teenage Witch because the world is terrible.
Who are you loving listening to right now?
I’ve recently discovered Halsey (I know, I’m behind). I love her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom album, in particular Walls Could Talk & Bad At Love.
What have you tried recently that you loved?
Surprisingly, I’ve totally fallen in love with barre class. I’ve never been one to want to sweat in front of other people but there’s something about the fact that it’s 98% women and all about taking time for yourself that has won me over.
Where is your favorite local dinner spot?
Pizza is my favorite thing, I was recently heart-broken when our local woodfired pizza place Franny’s shut in August, which meant I had to go out and find a new spot. Thankfully I saw Barboncino on someone’s Instagram story and my world was complete once more.
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
All the potatoes. I ❤️ carbs
